When I started in my role at Quinnipiac as Associate Director of Athletic Development our stewardship and engagement of athletic alumni, parents, and supporters was non-existent.

The overarching goal was for our alumni, parents, and friends of Quinnipiac Athletics to feel like they were truly apart of Bobcat Nation.

Our team decided to establish the “Friends of Quinnipiac Athletics” brand. In just two years, we had crafted 200+ emails (including segments by sport), 100+ social posts, 40+ print collateral, and our very first Friends of Quinnipiac Athletics newsletter.

From conceptual sketches to digital renderings, our logo was refined to ensure it effectively communicates our brand's athletic essence and resonates with our alumni, family, and supporters.

The process of creating this email banner began with understanding the purpose and audience of our email campaigns. Our team carefully selected colors and typography that align with the athletic identity and message, while aligning with the institution's branding guidelines. The simplistic design aims to provide brand awareness and recognition, drive engagement and foster a strong connection between friends of quinnipiac athletics and our athletic programs.

The process of creating our first Friends of Athletics newsletter began with identifying compelling stories from student-athletes, coaches, and donors.

Interviews were conducted to gather quotes and facts that highlighted athletic achievements and the impact of donor support.

The content was then curated and organized into a cohesive narrative, complemented by engaging visuals.

Finally, the newsletter was distributed to our target audience (all athletic alumni, current/former athletic parents, and donors to quinnipiac athletics). This newsletter will serve as a platform to showcase the successes and spirit within our athletics program while fostering connections.

To keep athletic alumni, parents, and supporters engaged with quinnipiac athletics we implemented a strategic and thoughtful process aimed to maintain relationships, demonstrate impact, and encourage continued support. Our team focuses on segmentation, personalization, content strategy, regular updates, and call-to-actions (CTA).  

Segmentation: Grow engagement by dividing our athletics list into segments based on sports, affiliation, and giving history. This allows for more targeted and personalized communication tailored to the preferences of different groups.

Personalization: Aim to personalize email content by addressing individuals by name and referencing their affiliation to Quinnipiac. Almost every email is signed by a coach, student-athlete, or athletic administrator to add a more personalized feel.

 Content Strategy: Develop a content calendar outlining the types of emails we send and when. Mix content types such as schedule releases, events, and fundraising appeals to keep emails diverse.

Regular Updates: Provide regular updates on the team’s season, events, facility improvements, and other relevant news related to Quinnipiac athletics - keeping donors informed and engaged with the latest developments. 

Call-To-Actions: Include clear and compelling calls-to-action in emails, whether it’s prompting donors to make a donation, registering for an event, or updating their information.
